The Neurometer sNCT CPT evaluation allows quantitative assessment of sensory nerve function not possible by the NCV to evaluate cutaneous sensation prior to reconstructive surgery, and provide guidelines for serial or follow-up surgeries. This is presumably because recently reconstructed cutaneous regions are innervated only by small afferent fibers which the sensory NCV can not evaluate.  Additionally, the sNCT measures are not effected by scar formation.  The sNCT evaluation has been successfully used to evaluate various surgical interventions as demonstrate the efficacy of artificial nerves.  See the web page with related publications cited, Selected Neurometer® CPT Research Publications Grouped by Topic and Specialty.
